The Perfect Personalised Present by Lauryn Rose

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been getting a few questions about Christmas gift ideas. I know that I usually post gift guides early on in the month of December but this year, I noticed that my Instagram feed was filled with similar guides and to be honest, I just felt that there was no real need to publish yet another one. With that said, I’m the type of girl who gets really excited about buying gifts for friends and family. My favourite type of presents to both give and receive are those with attached sentiment. So, I just had to write a post on this little gem of an idea by Lauryn Rose.

Lauryn Rose are an Irish company that sell dainty pieces of gorgeous jewellery through their online store. I’ve actually got a few pieces in my personal jewellery collection, including their “Think of Me” charm bracelet which I wear all the time. So, when it comes to buying gifts, I know where to look first. The online store offer lots of styles to choose from but for me, the most beautiful pieces are found within their “Geometric Collection”. The “Geometric Collection” is made up of dainty little necklaces which Lauryn Rose will engrave for free, with purchase. Prices start at €39 and every purchase is beautifully wrapped and packaged in a box filled with dried rose petals.

This year, as all of my best friends were turning 25 and I wanted to buy them something special to mark the occasion, I purchased us a “Gold Bar Necklace” each and had our nicknames engraved on them. I am obsessed with personalised presents but I was delighted to see how much the girls loved them too, the proof is in the fact that I see them wearing them all the time.

The picture above is of my own necklace, engraved with my nickname, “Cole”. I think that you’ll agree with me when I say it’s really pretty – I love simple, dainty jewellery. I was so impressed by the quality of these necklaces given that they are so affordable. I’ve had mine for ages now and although it’s gold plated, it hasn’t tarnished. There is also a 9ct gold option available, for those who are interested.

And there you have it, the engraved necklace is one of my favourite gift ideas of 2018. I just think it’s a lovely sentimental gift that would suit ladies of all ages. For more info, you can check out Lauryn Rose’s website here.

Now, let us know what you think in the comment section on Instagram. Are any of these pieces being added to your Christmas list?

Mother’s Day 2018 – A Gift Guide

If you’re lucky enough to have a Mammy that’s half as fabulous as my own, I really hope you’ve got this one sussed already. Although, hope as I may, I know rightly that in the lead up to the 11th of March, you’ll all be frantically running around like headless chickens looking for a box of Milk Tray and a bouquet of Tesco’s finest flowers. So, since we’re all house-bound by Storm Emma for the next few days, I thought I would magic up a list (most of which can be bought online) to help prepare you for Mammy’s favourite day of the year so you don’t have to go home with your tail between your legs this year.

A Trip to the Morelands Grill:

Alright, so this one only applies to those of you who have the luxury of living within travelling distance of Dublin city but for anyone who does, a trip to the Morelands Grill is so worth the visit, especially for a special occasion like Mother’s Day. I actually celebrated my birthday in this restaurant in August and to date, it’s been one of the nicest meals that I’ve had throughout my six years in Dublin. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere in the restaurant is casual and homely so it’s a safe bet to impress Mammy. Plus, if you can’t make it for their Mother’s Day Lunch Menu, the Morelands have lots of other menu options, including a “Gin and Jazz Brunch” on Saturdays. For some more info, you can visit their website here.

Replica “Beach Walk”:

Replica_Beach_Walk_100ml

This perfume by Maison Margiela smells like summer in a glass bottle and it’s absolutely gorgeous. As with all perfumes, it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but if your Mum loves warm, fresh fragrances that aren’t strong or over-powering, I think she’ll love this one. With notes of lemon and pink pepper, “Beach Walk” smells like the Atlantic Ocean, rather than a tropical beach resort so it’s definitely not sickly sweet. Instead, it smells like ocean spray and the wild coast. It’s top of my own wish list for summertime beauty buys and it can be purchased here, from Brown Thomas.

Sass & Boho “Incense – Citrus Intense”:

Sass and Boho Citrus Intense

If you’ve been watching my Insta-stories lately, you will already know how OBSESSED I am with this candle from Sass & Boho. It retails at £29 which is far cheaper than the expensive Jo Malone candles that Sass & Boho have actually surpassed in terms of quality and burn time. This particular candle that I love is double-wicked so it burns evenly, regardless of how long you light it for and the scent is heavenly. Anyone who knows me personally will already be aware that I’m obsessed with everything “lemon-y”. I love the taste and the smell of lemons but unlike some of the other citrus candles I’ve purchased, this one from Sass & Boho offers a soft, luxurious citrus scent, rather than one reminiscent of bathroom cleaning products. The wax is infused with citrus oil, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and cedarwood so it offers a beautiful, rich and relaxing fragrance. I really can’t recommend this one enough and it’s available here.

Lauryn Rose “Gold Bar Necklace”:

img_9584

I think that a necklace from the Geometric Collection by Lauryn Rose is the ideal gift for any lady in your life. Recently, I had three of these necklaces engraved with mine and my closest friends’ nicknames as my “adult” version of friendship necklaces and I think that both girls loved the sentiment. Why not pick one up for your Mum as a Mother’s Day Gift? Or better yet, if you know any new Mums – wouldn’t it be gorgeous to get their first baby’s name engraved as a keepsake for their first Mother’s Day? The “Gold Bar Necklace” is my pick of the Geometric Collection and you can have a look at it here.

Clarins “Youthfully Radiant” Skincare Gift Set:

clarins-gift-set-2.png

Find me an Irish Mammy who doesn’t love Clarins, and I’ll tell her that she simply hasn’t tried the right products yet. I actually used to view the brand as one that catered exclusively to the Mammy/Granny target market until I tried a few products and realised that I was missing out on some absolute gems. The Clarins “Double Serum” is now my favourite facial oil/serum of them all. This stuff is what skincare miracles are made of and one of the very few products in my skincare collection that offers immediate, visible results. Clarins “Beauty Flash Balm” is another effective product that never lets me down so I reckon it’s worth buying the set which is better value and is also currently discounted online from Debenhams.

TheBalm “Nude ‘Tude”:

thebalm-nude-tude-review.png

If your Mum loves make up and would get a giggle out of theBalm’s cheeky packaging, then this palette is a fool proof purchase. The shades are pigmented and silky smooth so they’re easy to blend. They’re also universally flattering colours that can be used to create both soft and extra-glam looks. Again, this product is currently discounted here from Debenhams.

Charlotte Tilbury “Pillow Talk” Lipstick:

img_0927

There are very few ladies out there who don’t appreciate the power of a good lipstick. I recently published a full review of Charlotte Tilbury’s “Pillow Talk” lipstick which you can find here but it’s safe to say that this is a fool-proof purchase because the shade is universally flattering and fabulous. It’s available to purchase online here.

And there you have it, my complete Mother’s Day gift guide. Now, do share and tell us what you’ll be buying Mammy in the comment section.

Juvi Designs – The New “Coral Collection”

Any long time followers of Rouge Writing Hood will already know that I’m a big fan of Irish jewellery designers, Vincent Tynan and Julie Danz, who are the creative masterminds behind Juvi Designs. A few months ago, I wrote a post detailing their “Initials Collection” and it got lots of lovely feedback, with lots of you buying the fabulous designs for loved ones during the Christmas season. With this in mind, I thought that you would all be interested in hearing about Juvi’s brand new launch – their SS17 “Coral Collection”.

Vincent and Julie draw inspiration for their designs from different parts of the the world to which they have traveled and the “Coral Collection” is inspired by the Philippine Islands. The inspiration is reflected in the beautiful gemstones that represent the country’s turquoise seas and stunning sunsets – there are stones to suit everyone in this collection from moonstone to ruby. The “Coral Collection” is also the first collection from Juvi that is available in rose gold, a trend that I know lots of you are excited about.

So, enough of my chatter – let’s see the pictures!! The entire collection can be found here, but for the moment, here are a few of my favourite picks:

This collection speaks for itself – and after popping in to Arnotts to have a sneaky browse, I can confirm that the jewellery is just as gorgeous in person as it is in the pictures. The Juvi team have wowed me again!

The prices of the pieces in the collection start at just €55 and are available from Juvi stockists nationwide including Arnotts, House of Fraser, Weirs, the Kilkenny Shop, Avoca and online from the Juvi website.

My Top “January Sales” Picks

Christmas is over and the festive season is firmly behind us. But, fear not – returning to work means a brand new paycheck which also means hitting the January sales. You only regret the things that you don’t buy but I’ve complied a little list of my favourite bargains to give you a little inspiration.

LanaiBlo Professional Hairdryer – Available Here:

lanaiblo-hairdryer

After reading The Beautiful Truth’s “Luxury Christmas Gift Guide” and watching her Snapchats, I found myself lusting after this LanaiBlo styling tool. Santa heard my plea and dropped one of these babies down the chimney and, I have to say, it’s definitely worth the money. The 2400 watt LanaiBlo is the brainchild of Irish entrepreneur Katie-Jane Goldin and it drys hair at a much faster rate than my previous hairdryer. It now takes me about 10 – 15 minutes to dry my hair which is pretty long, falling far below my shoulders. This hairdryer also uses ionic technology to provide an anti-static result. I rolled my eyes at that too but it actually does work! I’m finding less and less of a need for my GHDs.

The LanaiBlo is currently reduced from €99.99 to €89.99.

AYU “Chloe Brush Set” – Available Here:

img_8010

Again, this pick is one that I already have. I ADORE my “Chloe Brush Set” from AYU and used it almost every day over the festive season. It contains pretty much every brush you’ll need for a full face of make up, although I would recommend purchasing a stippling foundation brush too for fast application. I love the royal purple and gold colours in this set and because the brushes are made from synthetic fibres, they won’t absorb and waste product.

The AYU “Chloe Brush Set” is currently reduced from €60 to €45.

ESPA “The Replenishing Collection” – Available Here:

replenishing-collection

This gift set from ESPA is on my January wishlist because it contains all of my favourite skincare goodies from the brand in one box. ESPA is a gorgeous spa brand, available online and in luxury Irish resorts like Castlemartyr and Powerscourt. I absolutely adore their “Hydrating Cleansing Milk” which is in this set along with their “Hydrating Floral Spafresh” toner, “24 hr Replenishing Moisturiser” and “Overnight Hydration Therapy” which I have reviewed in full here. I’m actually running low on my ESPA products at the moment, so a sale is the perfect excuse to stock up. I would recommend these products for all skin types but, I think that dry and dehydrated “winter skin” would really appreciate the TLC that ESPA provides.

The ESPA “Replenishing Collection” is currently reduced from £60 to £42 and, ESPA are also offering a free full-sized cleanser to those who spend over £60 online.

Mugler “Angel Muse” Gift Set – Available Here:

mugler-angel-set

As some of you will already know, I included Mugler’s “Angel” in my “Christmas 2016 – Fragrances for Her” post. Now, Debenhams are offering 25% off this gorgeous “Angel Muse” set which includes a 50ml refillable eau de parfum and a complimentary 5ml miniature for your handbag. “Angel Muse” is a slightly sweeter fragrance than “Angel” and is lovely and fresh for everyday wear.

The “Angel Muse” gift set is currently reduced from €89 to €66.75 at Debenhams.

Benefit “Blushin’ Babe” Gift Set – Available Here:

Benefit Blushin Babe Set.jpg

Arnotts are offering a massive 33% off this gorgeous gift set from Benefit making it cheaper than one full-sized blusher from the brand. Benefit blushers are arguably the best on the market, loved by make up addicts worldwide. And, if you purchase this gift set, I highly doubt you’ll find any need to purchase another blush product for years. With five well-sized options to choose from, you’ll have the perfect shade for every occasion. And, Benefit have also included a mini “They’re Real” mascara and liner and a “Watts Up” highlighter.

Benefit’s “Blushin’ Babe” is currently reduced from €43 to €28.81 at Arnotts.

Juvi “Egadi Round Pendant” – Available Here:

web_rez_0007_1

I am OBSESSED with Irish designers Julie and Vincent Tynan’s creations. You can read my piece on their new “Initials Collection” here. This gorgeous pendant is available at a discounted price with a number of gemstone options. Labradorite is one of my favourite gemstones so I think that the option pictured is gorgeous, but it’s worth checking out the Juvi website for the other options including ruby and rose quartz.

The “Egadi Round Pendant” is currently reduced from €95 to €66.50.

Juvi Designs – The “Initials” Collection.

“I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number of carats in a diamond.” – Mae West.

After interviewing the lovely Julie Danz, as part of my “Irish Girl Boss Series” (view interview here), it’s safe to assume that I have become even more obsessed with Juvi Designs than I was before. If I had to choose one thing that I love most about the brand, it would be the fact that every piece is created with love and sentiment. Both Julie and Vincent really put their heart and soul into their creative brand. So, when I heard a few weeks ago that the dynamic duo were releasing a new collection, named the “Initials” collection, I sort of already knew that I would love it before I even got a glimpse of the pieces. I just didn’t realise how much I would love it – eeeek!

juvi-initials-necklace

If Sex and the City had aired in 2016, Ms Bradshaw would be sporting one of these beautiful necklaces instead of her famous “Carrie” chain. They’re so much more delicate and pretty than the initialled designs that we became sick of seeing in the late 90s. The chain and charms that make up these beautiful necklaces are sold separately, so they can be customised to create a unique piece. The picture above displays my initial and birthstone and as you can see, can be purchased in either sterling silver or gold vermeil. This would be a beautiful gift for ladies of all ages.  And, you’ll be surprised to hear that prices start at only €25.

juvi-stacking-rings

No Juvi collection would be complete without the addition of some bright and beautiful rings. Just look at those gorgeous gems! Pictured above are the new stacking rings which are the perfect compliment to the pretty initial necklaces. Available in both sterling silver and gold vermeil, with an array of gemstones to choose from; these rings can be worn alone or stacked.

Personally, I would stack these rings using the different birthstones which represent members of my family tree. This would be a lovely gift for mums or, the rings could be used as a grown up version of “friendship” rings (as could the necklaces). And finally, I think it would be a really cute idea to use these rings as gifts for your bridesmaids, choosing the gemstone associated with the month of your wedding. The possibilities are endless.

For more information on the collection, and a look at the different shades of gemstones, you can pop over to the Juvi Designs website. In the meantime, I will be adding these beauties to my Christmas wishlist – yes, I said the “C word” again!!

Let us know what you think in the comments section.

The Irish Girl Boss Series – Juvi Design’s Julie Danz.

“People will stare. Make it worth their while.” – Harry Winston.

For me, the selection of jewellery has always been a very intimate and personal experience. Over the years, I have been gifted jewellery to mark special occasions and have given similar gifts to loved ones. I believe that gemstones can represent personality and emotion and for this reason, I attach sentiment and memories to every single piece in my jewellery box. The goal is to build a high-quality collection which can be passed down through future generations. Diamonds are forever, after all.

For this reason, I was determined to find an Irish woman working within the jewellery design industry to participate in Rouge Writing Hood’s “Irish Girl Boss Series”. I was absolutely delighted when Julie Danz of Juvi Designs agreed to participate in an interview, giving us an insight into the industry and her life as a female entrepreneur.

Julie Danz Juvi

Julie, together with her husband, Vincent Tynan, founded Juvi Designs. In doing so, they have created a brand that aims to provide women with exquisite jewellery which is both luxurious and affordable. Julie is inspired by travel and the world around us, communicating this through the creation of pieces which are stunning, yet practical enough for everyday wear. I cannot wait to share her interview with you!

Julie Danz Juvi Designs

1) Can you describe to us how your background in interior design has influenced where you are now?

Colour, colour, colour! I had the privilege of working for the adventurous, colourful interior designer Carlton Varney in New York in the early 00s – a time when beige was ‘in’ and colour and pattern were less popular. He was renowned for his large prints, flamboyant colours and gold pineapple lamps! I worked on many bright and beautiful projects which, on reflection, have totally inspired my desire to work with gold and silver as well as colourful gemstones which are both bold and delicate.

2) Tell me about your design style. What makes your jewellery unique to the fashion industry?

I’m not sure if our jewellery is unique but it is definitely our own style. Our love of travelling and colour have inspired our collections. Each collection is named after a place we have visited which in turn has influenced the design and gemstones we used in each collection. The ‘Egadi’ collection was inspired by the beautiful laid back islands of the same name located just off the coast of Sicily. The ‘Boho’ collection was inspired by travelling in general and our love for discovering unspoiled places and the feeling of being away, free and adventurous. The ‘Antibes’ collection was inspired by the beautiful, colourful landscapes of the south of France as well as the little provincial villages and is a little more sophisticated than other collections. The ‘Shooting Star Collection’ was inspired by the night’s sky in the Ballinskelligs in Co. Kerry (one of the top 3 spots in the world for star gazing) where we camped under the stars. Our latest collection features a cocoa pod and was inspired by travels through magical Mexico and visiting a cocoa plantation there.

We use so many beautiful gemstones including, but not limited to: rubies, aqua chalcedony, green onyx, coral, turquoise, amethyst, citrine, tourmaline – our workshop is often referred to as ‘Aladdin’s cave’.

Cocoa Pod Necklace Juvi Designs

“Gold Cocoa Pod Tulum Pendant” – available here.

3) I adore the fact that every piece designed by Juvi is luxurious, yet affordable. When you were creating your company, how important was the ethos of the brand — the idea of providing everyday, working women with an opportunity to spoil themselves without the feeling of guilt which is often associated with a very large price tag?

It was very important. We wanted to make beautiful pieces of jewellery for every day and for those special days so that everyone could treat themselves, without breaking the bank! Juvi is a brand that is made accessible to everyone, no matter what your budget is. There is also a certain sentimental value attached to the Juvi brand. We wanted people to be able to afford to mark the big occasions in their lives without compromising on quality.

4) Do you take inspiration from other women in business and if so, who?

Yes I do. Style wise, I take inspiration from the stylist and socialite Iris Apfel in New York. I admire the designers Alice Temperley , Diane Von Furstenberg and Helen Steele for their use of colour, pattern, texture and embellishment. The jewellery designers Monica Vinader and Astley Clarke have been inspiring in their career journeys because they have an international presence and stand alone stores worldwide.

5) Personally, I am drawn to jewellery that has personality and sentimentality attached to it. I love to find meaning in gemstones, purchasing them to remind myself of anniversaries or important milestones. If you had to choose one gemstone to reflect your own personality which one would you choose and why?

I would have to include ruby as it is such a beautiful, vibrant gemstone. It is also the gemstone that we named our daughter after. However, the stone I think that reflects my personality best is labradorite. It is my favourite gemstone as it is subtle and appears one colour when you first look at it, but it has a hidden magical quality so when it catches the light it has a beautiful, vibrant, petrol-coloured sheen with blue, green and gold hues.

Juvi Laborordite Earrings

“Egadi Labradorite Drop Earring” – available here.

6) Who would you most like to see wearing your designs?

I love seeing people of all ages and styles wearing our pieces. Seeing someone out and about wearing a piece always gives me a thrill and I love to see how they style their Juvi. If I had to name a celebrity, I’d love to see Kate Hudson, Sienna Miller, Angela Scanlon or Amy Huberman wearing Juvi designs. They all have great relaxed style yet also look fabulous when they dress up. You have the opportunity to wear Juvi pieces from day through to night,  on an every day basis and on a glam night out.

7) How would you describe your own personal style?

I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl with Converse being a staple for day-time wear but, I also love getting dressed up for a party. Our collections reflect my personal style, with understated, simple pieces for every day to more glamorous, sparkly gems for a night out on the town!

8) Do you have a most treasured item in your own jewellery collection?

I am fortunate to have lots of jewellery, but if I had to choose my favourite it would be a set of hammered gold stacking rings that Vincent made for me with different coloured tourmaline and diamonds set into each one, which I never take off. Otherwise, I would have to say our original ‘Little Bean’ pendant which I also wear nearly every day, our ‘Lucky Star’ studs and my chunky, statement gold and labradorite ‘Egadi’ ring. I also love our new ‘Cenote’ bangles, which I wear when dressing up to go out.

Little Bean Pendant Juvi Designs.jpg

“Boho Little Bean Pendant” – available here.

9) To date, what is your favourite piece that you have ever created and why?

I would have to say the entire ‘Cocoa Pod’ collection. It was inspired by our many travels through magical Mexico and the beautiful shape of the cocoa pod itself, which we discovered when visiting a cocoa plantation. It is a very cohesive collection and although I generally do not tend to wear matching sets I would wear all of this collection together.

Juvi Cocoa Pod Ring

“Cocoa Pod Lago Ring” – available here.

10) What are your top entrepreneurship tips for those interested in getting into the design business?

Accepting criticism when it comes is hugely important especially in design. The best way to improve is to learn from your mistakes. I think this applies to business in general as well. It’s important to be adaptable and work hard, but don’t forget the important things in life are friends and family.

For more information about Juvi Designs, and a better look at their beautiful designs, you can check out their website here.

For those of you wondering, it’s my birthday this month – and yes, I want it all! I also want to hear all about your thoughts on the brand and their designs, so let us know in the comment section or on social media.

Graduation Day – What I Wore.

We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better. – JK Rowling.

Friday 11th of September 2015 marked the end of the ‘University’ era of my life – graduation day at NUI Maynooth. The entire day was one dedicated to reminiscing on the past four years. There were ups and there were downs, but what I will remember above all else is the life-long friends who took the journey with me.

I was determined to look my best on the day because knowing my Mam, the photographs will take permanent residence on the walls of our house. Many of you have asked me to share the details of my outfit so here goes:

My dress was ‘Self Portrait’ and I purchased it in BT2. This brand has caught the interest of well known personalities ranging from Pippa O’Connor to Jenna Dewan-Tatum and now, I know why. The design is quirky and fun but the quality of this dress is AMAZING! It’s a statement piece so although expensive, I imagine that it will last a lifetime! You can check out ‘Self Portrait’s’ AW15 range at BT2 here.

Check out these gorgeous babies! My shoes were by ‘Lipsy’, purchased from Debenhams AW15 collection. I’ve been looking for some sassy, yet sophisticated black heels for ages and I think these are perfect. Some of you will already know that ‘Kurt Geiger’ produce ‘Lipsy’ footwear which means that they’re great quality at a fraction of the price of the ‘Kurt Geiger London’ range. You can find these ones here.

And finally, let’s talk about accessories. Because the dress had a lot of pattern and detail, I kept it simple and chic. This beautiful ring was sent to me by ‘Lucky Eyes London’ and is available for purchase here. It is advertised as ‘stackable’ but I love wearing it alone for a dainty, girly effect. If you would like to view the products before purchase, pieces from ‘Lucky Eyes London’ are now available at House of Fraser – I’m obsessed with their ‘Evil Eye’ bracelets too.

So, what do you think of the final look? Let me know in the comments, I love to hear your style advice!

I Never Worry About Diets. The Only Carrots That Interest Me Are The Number Of Carats In A Diamond.

Recently, a lot of my followers have been expressing interest in jewellery and how it is often used to create a personal, signature style among fashionistas. I have huge love for personalised jewellery and often purchase a piece to remind me of fond memories.

Last summer, a very close aunt of mine passed away. Shortly afterwards, I moved to London for a few months and quickly became familiar with Hatton Garden, the city’s jewellery quarter. I was searching for something to remind me of my aunt – something that I could keep forever and that would ultimately be passed through generations. That is when I stumbled upon London Rocks, a little boutique specialising in handmade jewellery.

London Rocks is the brain-child of the lovely couple, Karl and Harshini. They created their business to provide customers with the opportunity to get involved in the design and creation of high-quality jewellery. After I discovered the boutique, I e-mailed Harshini explaining my desire to create a piece which I hoped would become a family heirloom. She replied within the day and asked me to come into the boutique to have a chat and to choose the gem I liked best for my piece.

Together, we decided upon the creation of two rings which could be stacked – one of plain gold and the other one set with a small, authentic ruby (my aunt’s birthstone). These rings were designed by Ayako Kanari. The band on each ring has a ‘plaited’ effect, inspired by Victorian “hair jewellery” which was used a symbol of mourning throughout the era. Finally, Harshini suggested that I have the first letter of my aunt’s name engraved into the back of one ring, ensuring that her memory would not be lost as new generations took possession of the pieces.

One year later, I still wear these rings everyday and so, they have become a part of my signature style. I would highly recommend the experience of working with London Rocks because it is both unforgettable and surprisingly affordable (given the quality of the pieces). You can find their website at: http://www.londonrocksjewellery.co.uk/ .

I can’t wait to choose another piece during my next visit to London.
