If My Hair Were Any Shinier, You’d Need Sunglasses!

I’m gonna be the MANE event, like no King was before. I’m brushing up on looking down, I’m working on my ROAR!

So, I was a little skeptical about trying Mane ‘n’ Tail’s horse to human crossover shampoo. I mean, have you ever met a ginger horse? However, I’m a sucker for haircare hype and so, I picked up a shampoo and conditioner duo in the original formula this week (€6.20 each in Cara Pharmacy).

Available here: https://www.carapharmacy.com/search/mane%20n%20tail/page-1

BEST DECISION OF THE WEEK! I absolutely love these products. First of all, the packaging is delightful – simple but fun. I love the fact that it provides instructions on how to wash a horse, should I ever need to. And, best of all, my hair is glossier than normal after just one wash.

The shampoo is a protein formula which provides a lovely lather. It’s slightly fragranced and leaves hair feeling squeaky clean. While, the conditioner is a lovely moisturising formula with natural oils to nourish the scalp.

Upon drying, my hair is soft, shiny and full of volume. I can see why Jennifer Aniston recommends the brand.

Next on my Mane ‘N’ Tail wishlist is the entire range. I’ve found a new brand addiction. Do any of you have a recommendation?

Eye Want Those Lashes.

Unfortunately, those of us with fair hair know well what it’s like to have invisible eyelashes. When I leave the house without multiple layers of mascara I’m generally met with a chorus of “oh my god, are you feeling sick?”. Yes that’s how I look without my make-up – malnourished.

So, here is my favourite ‘daytime’ mascara of the moment – L’Oreal’s ‘Mega Volume Collagene Mascara’ (€13.49). Available at pharmacies nationwide.

I’m a big fan of L’Oreal mascaras because they’ve always held their own when compared to high-end, expensive alternatives. This particular one is my favourite because it’s all about the volume. I can easily double coat my lashes without clumping and the formula is a ‘blacker-than-black’ shade.

Use this mascara by placing the wand at the root of your lashes and moving upwards and outwards with a wriggling movement.

A really noticeable difference with no flaking throughout the day. I think I’ll be re-purchasing this one!

You’ve Got It Glowing On.

It’s true what they say; beauty is only skin deep. So, you better take care of that skin!

As summer approaches, we all need to make changes to our skincare routine. And, Irish weather permitting, turning off the central heating means easing up on heavy moisturiser. Nobody wants a face that resembles an oil slick.

Last Summer, while I was living in London, the heat was too much for my dehydrated skin so I popped to my local Benefit counter. There, a fabulous Benebabe recommended I try their ‘Triple Performing Facial Emulsion’ (€31.50). This product is a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser with SPF 15.

Available here at: https://www.carapharmacy.com/p/benefit_triple_performing_facial_emulsion.

I love this product because it rehydrates skin without leaving an oily residue. It soaks in quickly making it perfect for a quick morning make-up routine. Massage into skin and neck using a circular motion – I find two or three pumps is an adequate amount meaning the bottle will last ages. The lotion should leave your skin glowing and flake feel. The formula is slightly scented so those who have sensitive skin should sample before purchase.

Have you tried any of the other products in the Benefit skincare range?

I’ll Be Ready in Five Minutes!

Make up can only make you look pretty on the outside. It doesn’t help if you’re ugly on the inside – unless you eat the make up.

So I’ve pressed ‘snooze’ a few too many times and now have 5 minutes to get ready for college. Better still, everyone else in the class usually looks like they’re ready for the runway – great!

Here’s one for of the quickest make-up routines a student can think up!

1) Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise – that glass of wine last night wasn’t as sneaky as you think!

2) A light base blended all over with your fingers. I swear by Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘Light Wonder’ foundation in ‘1 Fair’ (€42). It’s luminous, light and has SPF15. Just shake well before use. Available here:

3) Concealer if you need it. Once again, use fingers to dab product directly onto blemishes and underneath tired eyes.

4) Mascara! Essential for a bright eye! I love Armani’s ‘Eyes To Kill’ (€32.50).

Available here: http://www.brownthomas.com/mascara/eyes-to-kill-wet-mascara/invt/140x2161x617221

Place wand at root of eyelashes and pull upwards and outwards with a wriggling motion.

5) Brows should always be on point. When you don’t have time to fill and shape, a tinted gel like Benefit’s ‘Gimme Brow’ (€25.50) will still work wonders. Just coat brows once with the formula.

Cara Pharmacy provided the lowest price on my Benefit search: https://www.carapharmacy.com/p/benefit_gimme_brow

6) If I’m skipping eyeshadow and liner to save time, I like to create a bold lip. Red is always my colour of choice. Today I used Dior’s lipline pencil in ‘Rouge Royal’ (£19) and their ‘Diorific’ lipstick in ‘Marilyn’ (£28).

I found both products on House of Fraser’s UK website: http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Dior+Dior+Contour+Lipliner+Pencil/B117707,default,pd.html and http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Dior+Diorific+Lipstick/D370479,default,pd.html

Use the lip liner to emphasise the ‘V’ of your upper lip and always apply red lipstick with a lip brush for accurate application.

7) Finally, a little cheek tint can be applied. I tend to gauge how much to use against how bright my lips are. I recommend Benefit’s ‘Cha Cha Tint’ (€34.50) because it’s subtle.

Available here: https://www.carapharmacy.com/p/benefit_chachatint

Just two dots on the apples of your cheeks (blended with your fingers) create a healthy glow.

That’s it! You’re finished!

Let me know if you try the routine! Or, if you can make it shorter?

The Four Step Hangover Cure.

Easter weekend is almost over and my god, has it taken a toll on my face. A few mojitos have resulted in a dehydrated, dull appearance that would render me a pretty good option for a casting in ‘The Walking Dead’. However, life goes on and I do have to leave the house without scaring little children everywhere.

After a night out on the town, your skin feels the effects of dehydration caused by alcohol consumption so if you’ve over done it, start with a few glasses of water. Next, apply a thick moisturiser and allow it to absorb (I’ll post about my favourite later on).

Then, to the product list. I like to use as little product as possible on delicate skin so skip the heavy base and dig out a good concealer. My choice is Benefit’s ‘Boi-ing’ in the shade ‘Light’ (€24). It’s advertised as an industrial strength concealer and lives up to this promise by banishing dark circles and blemishes.

Next up – lashes. A good mascara will give a bright-eyed appearance. I tend to use Gosh’s ‘Darling Lashes Mascara’ which retails at around €10 in pharmacies nationwide – I got mine as part of a cute set at Cara Pharmacy. This mascara isn’t too obvious as I’m going for a casual daytime look but does add a lovely bit of length:

Almost there now and all we need is a pop of blusher and lipstick to finish. This beautiful Sleek blusher in ‘Rose Gold’ (€5.49) is available at Boots on a 3 for 2 offer as this post is published. It’s very like Nar’s cult blush ‘Orgasm’ at a much cheaper price.

Finally, on a hangover day – a bright lipstick is essential to illuminate the face. I’ve recently purchased Mac’s ‘Crosswires’ (€19.50) which is a beautiful ginger-friendly pink in a cream, hydrating formula. It doesn’t feather or move so I haven’t even used a liner.

The final look should appear a little like this:

Which is considerably better than this morning!

All I Need in This Life of Sin, is Lips Like a Kardashian.

Lip plumping injections? Yeah, they weren’t designed for those of us who have acquired nothing short of a heart jerking phobia of needles after one too many childhood trips to the dentist. Fun fact here, apparently gingers are 20% more resistant to the power of local anaesthetic but they don’t seem to teach that at dentistry school!

The phobia mentioned has led me on a merry journey to discover non invasive methods to plump my lips to at least half the size of Kylie Jenner’s and finally, I think I’ve found just the trick! Charlotte Tilbury, the red haired genius has created the perfect products to cheat your way to luscious lips.

Here are the two perfect products that I managed to get my hands on. The ‘Lip Lustre’ gloss in ‘Sweet Stiletto’ (€22) and the ‘Lip Cheat’ liner in ‘Pillow Talk’ (€22). See swatches below:

The trick here is to line your lips ever so carefully and slightly outside your natural lipline. Then fill in with the same liner before adding a pop of gloss to the middle of the lips. The gloss creates an optical illusion making the lips appear plump and moisturised. No need for a primer, the lasting power is great!

Here’s before:

And after:

The results speak for themselves. Also, it should be noted that this gloss is like butter, no need to spend your day scraping your hair from your shiny lips.

Don’t Worry About Me, Worry About Your Brows.

It’s every girl’s lifelong ambition to have the face of Cara Delevinge and recently the eyebrow pencilling trend has caught fire amongst the population. A word from the wise though, too much filling in can be bad – majorly bad!

That’s where ‘Gimme Brow’ by Benefit comes into play. It’s a creamy gel formula, designed to give subtle but instant brow definition. This product gives volume to the brows, avoiding a false look. You can’t overdo it with this pretty little wand applicator so gone are the days of washing your face and watching your eyebrows disappear into the sink.

The product comes in two shades: Light/Medium (right) and Medium/Deep (left).

This may seem like a narrow shade range but these are two universally flattering shades. Those of us who are ridiculously pale skinned will inevitably venture towards the lighter shade. See below and say goodbye to bad brows.
